The goal of this e-book

It is intended as an introduction to this field of knowledge, which can sometimes seem difficult to approach on one's own. Our fears may stem from an elitist image of this science, from the apprehension of a vocabulary that seems complex, or even from a feeling of illegitimacy that is sometimes enough to hold us back.

This digital book is aimed at anyone who has no specific skill but is curious to develop their knowledge. It is intended to be educational without being dogmatic or pretentious.

On the opposite: the approach proposed intend to be accessible and enjoyable. This digital book is created for a wide audience: teachers, parents who have chosen to educate their children at home, curious adults...

The questions posed are a pretext to encourage observation: to learn to look rather than just see, to go beyond the general idea and the synthetic view to go into detail.

The answers provide an opportunity to develop a specific vocabulary. The works selected are of different forms, with the aim of showing the lexical variety specific to each technique.

The works have been chosen from Europe and the Middle East because the populations of these areas have shaped what is conventionally known as Western culture. Finally, these works are representative of a way of thinking, an era, a set of beliefs or a form of social organisation...
